Community Awareness and Sensitization Campaign
Strengthening Participatory Organization (SPO), in collaboration with the International Rescue Committee (IRC) and the Medical Emergency Resilience Foundation (MERF), strategized and organized a Community Awareness and Sensitization Campaign on Nutrition in the districts of Sukkur, Ghotki, Kashmore, Khairpur, and Naushahro Feroze.
This campaign aims to address the pressing issue of malnutrition by educating community members about the importance of nutrition and empowering them to take proactive steps toward improving their nutritional status. By focusing on key community figures such as Lady Health Workers (LHWs), Community Health Workers (CHWs), social activists, and women leaders, SPO and its consortium partners delivered awareness sessions and provided step-by-step technical guidelines on preventing and curing malnutrition at the community level. The campaign seeks to foster a collaborative approach to tackling malnutrition at the grassroots level.
The Community Awareness and Sensitization Campaign strategy involved conducting 40 community seminars across the five districts, each carefully designed to maximize participation and engagement. To accommodate the local context, seminars were limited to two hours due to the hot weather conditions and ensured balanced representation, with approximately 80-100 community members, including men and women, participating in each session.

The engagement of government and PPHI health staff further strengthened the campaign, fostering a sense of ownership and integration with local health initiatives. Sessions were scheduled to avoid conflicts with polio campaign days, ensuring that community health workers and other critical stakeholders could fully participate.
Each community awareness seminar provided a platform to raise awareness about nutrition-related challenges, promote community behavior change to mitigate the causes of malnutrition, and equip community members with the knowledge to improve their dietary practices.
The campaign targeted diverse groups, including pregnant and lactating women, teachers, nutrition champions, and caregivers, to create a ripple effect of knowledge dissemination within the communities. Interactive discussions and practical demonstrations were also conducted, enabling participants to understand the impact of malnutrition and adopt healthier lifestyle choices for themselves and their families.
In conclusion, the Community Awareness and Sensitization Campaigns in Sukkur, Ghotki, Kashmore, Khairpur, and Naushahro Feroze districts represent a significant step toward combating malnutrition through community education and engagement. By empowering local populations with the necessary knowledge and tools, this campaign fosters a more health-conscious society capable of addressing and overcoming nutritional challenges. The collaborative approach ensures that the campaign’s impact is sustainable, paving the way for long-term health improvements across these districts.
